Daniel Stapper 

Senior Program Officer

 

Mines to Market, PACT International NGO.

Daniel Stapper is Senior Program Officer of Pact's Mines to Markets program, supporting the design and delivery of Pact M2M's Gold portfolio, worldwide. Pact is a large international NGO with over 5000 employees working in over 40 countries around the world. Pact's Mines to Market Program develops market-based approaches which support responsible mineral supply chains. Daniel is an expert on Artisanal and Small-scale Gold Mining (ASGM) and mercury and has worked extensively on ASGM in Asia, Africa, and South America. He is currently leading Pact's work to pilot and scale responsible, mercury-free gold production in the ASGM sector, in several countries. Prior to working with Pact, Daniel worked as a GIS analyst and environmental scientist with Golder Associates Ltd., an international environmental engineering consultancy where he primarily worked on environmental and social impact assessments (ESIAs), and environmental permitting in the extractives sector. Previous to this, Daniel was a co-founding director of the Artisanal Gold Council, where he co-developed ASGM projects in Indonesia, Ghana, Tanzania, Mali, Burkina Faso and Nigeria. Daniel co-authored the UNEP funded Publication 'Reducing Mercury Use in Artisanal and Small-Scale Gold Mining', which is considered a benchmark publication for the ASGM sector. Mr. Stapper is Canadian but is based in Paris, France. Mr. Stapper completed an MSc. on Mercury Use and Fate from ASGM in Central Kalimantan, Indonesia (University of Victoria, BC Canada), following a BSc. in biology and geomatics.
